Abstract
Background. The paper presents the methods and results of dental treatment under general anaesthesia on an outpatient basis, which was conducted in 2012 in NZOZ “Private Dental Centre Maciej Kozłowski” in Oleśnica. Conservative and surgical treatment was performed in 104 patients, adolescents and adults with mental, neurological or psychiatric diseases or history of craniocerebral trauma. Objectives. The aim of the study was to assess the medical needs of patients who require dental treatment under general anaesthesia. Material and methods. The material was a retrospective study of medical records including medical history data and entries in the books of treatment in 104 patients aged 00–99 years, who received dental conservative surgical treatments under general anaesthesia in NZOZ “Private Dental Centre Maciej Kozłowski” in Oleśnica in 2012. Results. Each patient had insufficient oral hygiene. All patients received preventive treatment. A total of 268 permanent teeth were removed, 82 deciduous teeth and 32 permanent impacted teeth. 96 odontogenic cysts were enucleated and 6 treatments of oro-antral fistulas were performed. 585 permanent teeth and 17 deciduous teeth received conservative treatment. 4 endodontic treatments were performed. In the group PUW ratio ranged from 6 to 22, mean value 15.4, including P = 6.8; U = 6.2; W = 2.4. Conclusions. Poor oral hygiene of disabled patients resulted in the large amount of teeth extractions in this group. This reflects the low awareness of oral health of people who take care of disabled patients. It is necessary to improve oral health care of these patients.References
