Abstract
This editorial reflects on the historical development of AICO and the launch of Advanced Interdisciplinary Care in periOperative Practice as a new scientific journal dedicated to perioperative care. Starting from the Association’s first bulletin published in 1989, it traces the evolution from professional communication and continuing education to the responsibilities of a scientific society committed to producing and disseminating knowledge. The editorial highlights the transition from a focus centred on the operating room to a broader perioperative pathway, emphasizing interdisciplinarity, technological innovation, research culture, and professional development. It also outlines the Journal’s open-access model and its ambition to provide an international platform for rigorous, clinically relevant scholarship. The launch of AICO Journal is presented as both a continuation of the Association’s history and the beginning of a new scientific journey.
