About the Journal

Journal of Nursing in Infection Prevention and Control (JNIPC) is an international, English-language, double-blind peer-reviewed, open-access scientific journal and the official publication of the ANIPIO Scientific Society.

JNIPC is dedicated to advancing nursing knowledge, research, education, and professional practice in infection prevention and control. The Journal promotes the development and dissemination of scientifically rigorous evidence addressing healthcare-associated infections, infectious risk management, antimicrobial stewardship, patient and healthcare worker safety, infection surveillance, outbreak prevention and management, implementation of evidence-based practices, and the organization and evaluation of infection prevention programmes.

The Journal welcomes research addressing infection prevention and control across hospitals, community services, long-term care facilities, residential care settings, primary care, home-care services, and other health and social care environments. Particular consideration is given to studies that contribute to improving clinical practice, quality of care, patient safety, professional education, organizational processes, and healthcare policy.

JNIPC publishes the following categories of scientific contributions:

The Journal encourages interdisciplinary collaboration while maintaining a clear focus on the contribution of nursing professionals and infection prevention specialists. Its readership includes nurses, infection prevention and control professionals, clinicians, epidemiologists, microbiologists, researchers, educators, healthcare managers, policymakers, and other professionals involved in preventing and managing infectious risks.

JNIPC is owned by ANIPIO – Società Scientifica Nazionale Infermieri Specialisti nel Rischio Infettivo and is published by iEditore. Scientific and editorial responsibility is exercised through the Editor-in-Chief and the Journal’s editorial structure, in accordance with the respective responsibilities established by the Journal’s editorial agreement.

The editorial framework of JNIPC includes:

  • Initial editorial screening for relevance to the Journal’s scope, scientific quality, ethical compliance, and adherence to submission requirements
  • External double-blind peer review conducted by independent experts in the relevant disciplinary area
  • Open-access publication, enabling readers worldwide to access published content without subscription barriers
  • International publication in English, supporting the dissemination of research beyond national and disciplinary boundaries
  • Permanent article identification through Digital Object Identifiers and structured scholarly metadata
  • Long-term digital preservation through recognized archiving and preservation infrastructures


External Rigorous Peer Review

Each manuscript submitted to the Journal of Nursing in Infection Prevention and Control undergoes an initial editorial assessment before being considered for external peer review. This assessment evaluates the manuscript’s relevance to the Journal’s aims and scope, scientific and methodological quality, originality, ethical compliance, competing interests, funding disclosures, authorship information, and adherence to the Journal’s submission and reporting requirements.

Manuscripts considered suitable for further evaluation are normally sent to at least two independent external reviewers with appropriate expertise. JNIPC applies a double-blind peer-review process, in which the identities of authors and reviewers are concealed from one another.

Reviewers assess the scientific validity, methodological appropriateness, originality, transparency, relevance, and clarity of the submitted work. When revisions are required, authors are invited to submit a revised manuscript together with a detailed response explaining how each editorial and reviewer comment has been addressed.

Submitted manuscripts may be screened through plagiarism and similarity-detection systems made available by the publisher. The Editor-in-Chief and the designated Editors oversee the peer-review process and are responsible for the final scientific and editorial decision.

The publisher may also intervene where a manuscript raises concerns relating to copyright, privacy, research integrity, unlawful content, ethical non-compliance, or other matters that could affect the integrity of the publication or the scientific record.

Open Access Policy

Journal of Nursing in Infection Prevention and Control is a fully open-access journal. All published articles are freely and permanently available to readers without subscription, registration, or pay-per-view charges.

Authors retain copyright in their work. Articles are published, as a general rule, under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0). This licence permits readers to read, download, copy, distribute, adapt, and reuse the published work, provided that appropriate credit is given to the authors and the original publication.

The applicable copyright and licensing statement is displayed on the webpage and in the published version of each article.

Publication Frequency

Journal of Nursing in Infection Prevention and Control is published on a semiannual basis, with two issues released each year.

Manuscripts may be submitted throughout the year through the Journal’s online submission system. Publication schedules remain dependent on the completion of editorial evaluation, peer review, revision, production, and final approval procedures.

Publication Fees

During the Journal’s initial launch phase, JNIPC does not charge authors article processing charges, submission fees, or publication fees.

Any future introduction of publication charges may occur only following a formal agreement between ANIPIO and iEditore. Any such change will be communicated transparently before submission and will not influence peer review or editorial decisions.

Business Practices

Journal of Nursing in Infection Prevention and Control operates according to recognized principles of transparency, accountability, editorial independence, research integrity, and best practice in scholarly publishing.

The Journal maintains a clear separation between scientific and editorial decisions, publishing services, financial support, institutional relationships, and any future commercial activities.

Revenue Sources

During its initial phase, the Journal is supported by ANIPIO through the editorial and publishing services provided by iEditore under the relevant editorial agreement.

The Journal does not currently receive revenue from article processing charges, submission fees, subscriptions, pay-per-view access, commercial advertising, or sponsored scientific contributions.

Any future source of financial or institutional support will be disclosed transparently and managed in accordance with the Journal’s policies and the agreements between ANIPIO and iEditore.

Sponsorship

During the Journal’s initial launch phase, JNIPC does not publish sponsored scientific contributions and does not accept sponsorship connected to the acceptance or publication of individual manuscripts.

Any future institutional or financial sponsorship may be introduced only following a formal agreement between ANIPIO and iEditore. The identity and role of any sponsor will be disclosed transparently.

Sponsorship must never influence manuscript selection, peer review, editorial evaluation, publication decisions, or the interpretation and presentation of scientific findings.

Editorial Independence

Scientific and editorial decisions are based exclusively on the quality, originality, methodological validity, ethical compliance, and relevance of submitted manuscripts to the Journal’s aims and scope.

The Editor-in-Chief and the designated Editors oversee the scientific evaluation and peer-review process. ANIPIO, as the owner of the Journal, appoints the scientific leadership and supports the Journal’s strategic development without interfering with the independent evaluation of individual manuscripts.

iEditore provides publishing, technical, production, preservation, and editorial-support services. The publisher may act where necessary to ensure compliance with applicable law, copyright, privacy, publication ethics, research integrity requirements, and the contractual standards governing the Journal.

Sponsors, institutional partners, funding bodies, and other external parties have no authority over peer-review outcomes or decisions concerning the acceptance or rejection of manuscripts.

Direct Marketing

Any promotional communication undertaken on behalf of JNIPC, including calls for papers, invitations to submit manuscripts, announcements, and communications concerning future thematic initiatives, must be truthful, professional, appropriately targeted, and unobtrusive.

The Journal does not engage in indiscriminate, persistent, or misleading mass-email solicitation. Promotional communications must accurately describe the Journal’s aims and scope, peer-review model, open-access status, publication fees, indexing status, and editorial services.

An invitation to submit a manuscript does not guarantee acceptance or preferential treatment. Every submission is subject to the Journal’s standard editorial screening and peer-review procedures.

Personal information used for Journal communications is processed in accordance with applicable data-protection legislation and the Journal’s Privacy Policy. Recipients may request not to receive further promotional communications.

Advertising and Sponsored Content

During its initial launch phase, Journal of Nursing in Infection Prevention and Control does not accept, publish, or display paid commercial advertisements in articles, issue files, or on the Journal website.

Journal announcements, calls for papers, editorial notices, scientific events, educational initiatives, and communications relating to the Journal’s own scholarly activities are not considered commercial advertising.

Any future introduction of advertising or sponsored content may occur only following a formal agreement between ANIPIO and iEditore. Advertising or sponsorship must remain clearly separated from scientific content and must not influence editorial evaluation, peer review, or publication decisions.

Publication Ethics

JNIPC is committed to maintaining high standards of publication ethics, research integrity, transparency, accountability, and responsible scholarly communication. Editors, reviewers, authors, and members of the Journal’s editorial structure are expected to act in accordance with internationally recognized principles of ethical scholarly publishing.

Authors must provide complete and accurate information concerning authorship, competing interests, financial support, ethical approvals, institutional authorizations, informed consent, use of data, and any other matter relevant to the ethical assessment of the submitted work.

The following requirements apply to the ethical documentation of submitted manuscripts:

  • Studies involving patients or other human participants: approval or formal authorization from the competent Institutional Review Board, Research Ethics Committee, or equivalent body must be obtained and reported in the manuscript. Relevant documentation must be provided when requested.
  • Studies involving healthcare professionals only: under the Journal’s current operational framework, formal approval from an Institutional Review Board or Research Ethics Committee is not routinely required when the study exclusively involves professionals. Authors must nevertheless comply with all applicable national legislation, local regulations, institutional policies, data-protection requirements, and authorization procedures.
  • Quality Improvement Reports: formal approval from an Institutional Review Board or Research Ethics Committee is not routinely required under the Journal’s current operational framework. However, authors must obtain formal authorization from the healthcare organization or institutional management where the quality-improvement activity was conducted.

Where applicable, authors must describe informed-consent procedures and the measures adopted to protect confidentiality, privacy, and personal data. The absence of appropriate ethical approval, institutional authorization, or consent may result in rejection, suspension of evaluation, correction, expression of concern, or retraction.

Suspected plagiarism, duplicate publication, data fabrication, data falsification, inappropriate image manipulation, authorship misconduct, undisclosed competing interests, unethical research, or manipulation of the peer-review process will be investigated according to recognized publication-ethics procedures.

Corrections and Retractions

JNIPC seeks to preserve the accuracy, reliability, and integrity of the scholarly record. Published articles should remain permanent, identifiable, and unaltered to the greatest extent possible.

Where significant errors, ethical concerns, or suspected misconduct are identified after publication, the Journal may publish a correction, expression of concern, retraction, or other appropriate post-publication notice.

Corrections

A correction may be published when an error affects the interpretation, understanding, indexing, attribution, or evaluation of an article but does not invalidate its principal findings.

The correction notice will be permanently linked to the original article and will clearly describe the amended information. The original article will remain accessible as part of the scholarly record, with an appropriate notice added where necessary.

Retractions

JNIPC may retract a published article when:

  • there is clear evidence that the findings are unreliable because of misconduct, fabrication, falsification, major methodological error, or honest error
  • the findings have previously been published elsewhere without appropriate disclosure, permission, cross-reference, or justification
  • plagiarism or substantial unauthorized reuse is identified
  • the article reports research conducted without the necessary ethical approval, institutional authorization, or informed consent
  • the article contains material that infringes copyright, privacy, confidentiality, or other legal rights
  • the peer-review or publication process has been manipulated

A retraction will be accompanied by a clearly identifiable retraction notice linked to the original article. The article will remain identifiable as part of the scientific record and will be clearly marked as retracted.

Where an investigation is ongoing and the available information raises serious concerns, the Journal may publish an expression of concern while awaiting the outcome of the investigation.

Abstracting, Indexing, and Scholarly Visibility

Journal of Nursing in Infection Prevention and Control is a newly established scientific journal. Its registration, discoverability, and indexing pathway will be developed progressively in accordance with the Journal’s editorial development plan.

The Journal will request an International Standard Serial Number and will assign permanent identifiers to published articles through the DOI registration infrastructure managed by iEditore. Article metadata will be deposited through Crossref or another competent registration agency used by the publisher.

Following the publication of its first scientific content, the Journal will progressively pursue inclusion and discoverability through services.

As the Journal develops the required editorial continuity, scientific quality, publication history, metadata standards, international reach, and citation profile, applications may also be submitted to relevant nursing, healthcare, and multidisciplinary databases, including CINAHL, EBSCO, Scopus, PubMed, and Web of Science.

The submission of an application does not guarantee acceptance. Inclusion, indexing, processing times, and continued coverage are determined exclusively by the independent criteria and assessments of each external database or indexing organization.

Archiving and Digital Preservation

JNIPC is committed to the permanent accessibility and long-term preservation of its published scientific content. Articles, supplementary materials, and bibliographic metadata are hosted through the iEditore Journals publishing infrastructure.

Digital preservation is supported through recognized preservation systems, including the PKP Preservation Network, where applicable, and through additional archiving, metadata-deposit, and scholarly-discovery infrastructures used by the publisher.

Published content is also subject to the applicable legal-deposit and preservation procedures, including transmission of the electronic publication to the National Central Library of Florence where required.

Authors may deposit and preserve the published version of their articles in institutional, disciplinary, or personal repositories, provided that the original publication is correctly cited and the conditions of the applicable Creative Commons licence are respected.
