Journal of Nursing in Infection Prevention and Control (JNIPC) is committed to ensuring the long-term preservation, integrity, accessibility, and discoverability of its published scholarly content.
The Journal’s digital-preservation strategy is designed to ensure that articles, supplementary materials, bibliographic metadata, and related publication records remain accessible to the scholarly community over time, including in the event of changes to the Journal’s website, publishing platform, ownership arrangements, or editorial management.
Digital Preservation Infrastructure
JNIPC is hosted and published through the iEditore Journals infrastructure, based on Open Journal Systems (OJS).
Published articles, supplementary files, issue records, and bibliographic metadata are maintained within the Publisher’s digital infrastructure and may also be deposited in recognized preservation, registration, indexing, aggregation, and scholarly-discovery services used by iEditore.
Preservation procedures are intended to protect the accessibility, authenticity, integrity, and continuity of the published scholarly record.
PKP Preservation Network
The Journal’s preservation strategy includes integration with the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN), a distributed digital-preservation service developed by the Public Knowledge Project for eligible journals published through Open Journal Systems.
PKP PN creates distributed and independently maintained archival copies of deposited journal content. This distributed preservation model is designed to support continued access to published materials if the original journal website or publishing platform becomes temporarily or permanently unavailable.
Deposit and preservation through PKP PN are carried out in accordance with the technical requirements, eligibility criteria, deposit procedures, and service availability applicable to the iEditore Journals platform.
Preserved Content
The Journal’s preservation framework may include:
- published article files and Versions of Record;
- issue and section records;
- supplementary files published with an article;
- article titles, abstracts, keywords, and references;
- author and affiliation metadata;
- Digital Object Identifiers and associated registration metadata;
- copyright and licensing information;
- corrections, expressions of concern, retractions, and other post-publication notices;
- additional publication metadata necessary to identify and preserve the scholarly record.
Files that are not published as part of the scholarly record, including confidential peer-review reports, internal editorial correspondence, and unpublished manuscript versions held within the editorial system, are managed separately and are not necessarily included in public preservation deposits.
Legal Deposit
The electronic edition of JNIPC is subject to the applicable legal-deposit and bibliographic-preservation procedures.
In accordance with the Journal’s publishing arrangements, iEditore provides for the transmission of the electronic publication to the National Central Library of Florence, in accordance with the applicable legal-deposit procedures and technical requirements.
Legal deposit contributes to the certification, authenticity, bibliographic documentation, and long-term preservation of the Journal’s published content.
Digital Object Identifiers and Metadata Preservation
Published articles receive a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) registered by iEditore through its own DOI prefix and registration account with Crossref or another competent Registration Agency used by the Publisher.
DOI registration and metadata deposit support the permanent identification, citation, retrieval, and updating of published articles, even when the location of the article changes.
iEditore maintains responsibility for:
- the DOI prefix used for JNIPC articles;
- the registration account used to deposit DOI metadata;
- the deposit and maintenance of article metadata;
- updates to article URLs and metadata, within the procedures permitted by the relevant Registration Agency;
- the technical management of the permanent identifiers assigned to published content.
The DOI assigned to an article remains valid following publication and is not replaced solely because of a change in website, platform, or publisher.
Open Access and Continuing Availability
All JNIPC articles are made freely available online immediately upon publication, without subscription, registration, pay-per-view access, or embargo.
Unless otherwise indicated, the published Version of Record is distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Licence (CC BY 4.0) .
The open-access status and licensing conditions assigned to an article at the time of publication remain associated with that article. Preservation or transfer of the article does not remove the rights already granted under the applicable Creative Commons licence.
Author Self-Archiving
Authors may deposit and share the following versions of their manuscript without embargo:
- the submitted manuscript before peer review;
- the accepted manuscript following peer review;
- the final published Version of Record.
Authors may deposit these versions in:
- institutional repositories;
- disciplinary or subject repositories;
- research-funder repositories;
- personal or institutional academic webpages;
- other legitimate, non-exclusive scholarly platforms.
The deposited version must be clearly identified. Once the Version of Record has been published, repository records should include:
- the complete bibliographic citation;
- the article DOI;
- a direct link to the article on the JNIPC website;
- the copyright and Creative Commons licence applicable to the published article.
The CC BY 4.0 licence displayed with the published article applies to the Version of Record. Submitted or accepted versions should not be represented as the final published article.
Continuity Following Contractual Termination or Journal Transfer
The preservation and accessibility of articles already published by JNIPC are intended to continue following the expiry or termination of the editorial agreement or the transfer of the Journal to another publisher.
Articles already published through the iEditore Journals platform may remain accessible on that platform for preservation, archiving, dissemination, citation, and scholarly-record purposes.
In the event of a transfer to another publisher, iEditore may provide, in accordance with the applicable contractual procedures:
- archives of previously published issues in an appropriate structured format;
- information concerning existing licences and preservation arrangements;
- technical information relating to assigned DOIs and deposited metadata;
- cooperation in updating destination URLs and bibliographic metadata;
- migration information, technical codes, or redirects, as agreed between the parties;
- available usage statistics for transferred content, where technically possible.
The ownership of iEditore’s DOI prefix, registration account, metadata-deposit infrastructure, publishing platform, and related technical systems remains with iEditore.
Journal Cessation
If JNIPC ceases publication, reasonable measures will be taken to preserve continued access to its published articles and bibliographic metadata through the Publisher’s platform, preservation services, legal-deposit arrangements, repositories, DOI infrastructure, or other appropriate scholarly archives.
Published content will not normally be removed solely because the Journal has ceased accepting submissions or publishing new issues.
Content may be removed or access restricted only where required for legal, ethical, privacy, security, or research-integrity reasons. Where possible, an appropriate explanatory notice or bibliographic record will remain available.
