Abstract

Background. Epilepsy is a central nervous system disorder characterized by recurrent seizures. Pregnant women with epilepsy are classified as high-risk pregnancies. They require special preparation during the preconception period, as well as during pregnancy, postpartum, and lactation. Objectives. The aim of this study is to present the specifics of midwifery care for a pregnant woman with epilepsy who was hospitalized in the third trimester due to trauma. Material and methods. The research method was a case study analysis using the nursing care process. Conclusions. The case analysis showed that effective care for a pregnant woman with epilepsy hospitalized due to trauma requires the collaboration of an interdisciplinary team. The importance of early pregnancy planning and preconception education was emphasized. Specific nursing problems were identified, including anxiety about fetal well-being, stress related to hospitalization, and post-traumatic pain. Effective recognition and reduction of these issues were made possible through an individualized approach by the midwife, emotional support, and patient education. Despite the implementation of good practices, some of the patient’s concerns persisted, highlighting the need for ongoing care based on empathy and trust.
