Abstract
Background. Natural childbirth is a natural element of the completion of pregnancy and is often associated with extreme emotions that accompany the woman giving birth. The grates concern of many laboring mothers is anxiety and equally the fear of pain resulting from regular contractions. In order to improve the comfort of the mother during childbirth and reduce pain, non-pharmacological methods of pain relief are used that are safe for the mother and the fetus. Objectives. The aim of the study was to show the nursing problems that accompanied a woman giving birth during natural labor and to present holistic care for mother with the use of non-pharmacological methods of pain relief. Subject of research. The subject of research in the thesis was the individual nursing process, which was created based on Dorothy Orem’s nursing theory. A selected theory was used in connection with the shortage of knowledge in theme of childbirth. Case analysis. During childbirth, patient struggled with pain caused by regular uterine contractions, fear of episiotomy, and incorrect breathing that could lead to hyperventilation. The patient’s problems resulted from the lack of knowledge about childbirth. When non-pharmacological methods of pain relief were used, the care problems decreased significantly. Conclusions. The use of non-pharmacological methods of pain relief reduce pain discomfort during childbirth and provide comfort to the woman giving birth. Abdominal breathing during childbirth allows for better oxygenation of the fetus and the woman giving birth, which has a positive effect on the whole process of delivery. The use of aromatherapy in practice allows to reduce pain, as well as improve well-being. Music therapy has a relaxing effect, it also improves the well-being of the mother together with concentration on movement during childbirth.References
