Abstract
Background. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is an illness, in which kidney damage remains for over three months and a structural or functional kidney abnormality with normal or lowered glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is found. Dialysis’ purpose is to not only extend the length of life but also improve its quality of life (QoL). The QoL of dialysed patients will never be on the same level as of healthy people. Many comorbidities of CKD also influence the QoL. Objectives. To explore and become aware, how frailty syndrome (FS) influences the QoL of dialysed patients in old age. Analysing what (sociodemographic and clinical) changes contained in a survey affect the frequency of FS. Material and methods. The study was conducted in two Dialysis Station institutions in the Lower Silesia region. The study included a total of 70 people between the ages of 65 to 87 years. Tools, used in the study were three survey questionnaires: own survey, Tilburg Frailty Indicator (TFI) and World Health Organization Quality of Life Brief Version (WHOQoL–BREF). Results. The analysis of the study showed FS in 68.57% of patients, there was no association between gender and the incidence of FS. FS was associated with a higher incidence of comorbidities. The QoL of dialysed patients included in the study was at an average level. Conclusions. FS affects the QoL of dialysed patients. Although the limitation of the study was the small number of surveyed people. Therefore, this issue requires further research.References
