Abstract
Background. Chronic diseases, which include heart failure can have symptoms similar to the symptoms of the anxiety and depression. The presence of depressive symptoms is associated with mortality, quality of life and health of patients with HF, regardless of the clinical parameters. Unfortunately, depressive symptoms occur in people with heart failure more frequently than in general population. Objectives. To evaluate anxiety and depression on quality of patients with heart failure. Material and methods. The study was conducted among 58 patients (41 men, 17 women), suffering from heart failure located in the Hospital in Kluczbork. The average age of the study group was 65 years. To gather research material were used: socio-demographic survey, Short Form-36 (SF-36), the scale of HADS-M. Considered statistically significant at p < 0.05. Results. The mean overall level of anxiety scale of respondents was M = 8.6 (SD = 4.4). The average overall scale of depression was M = 6.5 (SD = 4.6). The average overall level of anxiety scale was M = 3.1 (SD = 1.7). Correlation analysis showed that the patients who had higher levels of anxiety (HADS-M) had a lower level of physical activity, pain, general health perception, vitality, social functioning, mental health, activity limitations due to emotional problems and a lower level of physical and mental summary score. Conclusions. A high rate of anxiety and depression reduces the quality of life of patients with heart failure.References
