Abstract
Background. Self-care helps to control proper health behaviors, which are necessary to maintain proper glucose levels and minimize the risk of complications. In this disease it is the patient who decides about his future, his daily choices, self-monitoring and self-control have a direct impact on his health. Objectives. The aim of the study was to evaluate the level of self-care in patients with T2 diabetes. Material and methods. The study was conducted in a group of 100 patients with diagnosed T2 diabetes. The method of the diagnostic survey was used using the Self-Care of Diabetes Inventory Questionnaire and our own questionnaire to collect sociodemographic and clinical data. Results. With the duration of the disease and high level of adherence, independence in terms of normal health behaviors, health condition control and self-confidence increases. Independence in terms of healthy behaviours, health control, glucose control and self-confidence in terms of self-care was significantly higher in patients who actually followed therapeutic recommendations. Conclusions. 1. The examined patients are best able to follow the recommendations concerning proper health behaviour of SCODI A, and the most difficult for them to control their own glucose level of SCODI C. The most difficult to do is to control the level of SCODI C glucose. 2. SCODI A health behaviours, SCODI D self-confidence and SCODI B health surveillance are higher in the group of women, people in relationships and those working mentally. 3. The duration of the disease affects the level of self-care in diabetes. 4. Independence in normal health behaviour of SCODI A positively correlates with independence in health control of SCODI B, control of glycemia level of SCODI C and self-confidence in selfcare of SCODI D.References
