Abstract
Background. Acute subglottic laryngitis is a viral disease that occurs most often in children. The main symptoms are stridor, barking cough and inspiratory dyspnea. The condition usually has a benign course, but there are cases (less than 5%) that require specialized care, both nursing and the entire treatment team. Objectives. To demonstrate nursing problems and nursing interventions based on a case report of a 5-year-old boy suffering from acute subglottic laryngitis. Material and methods. In this study, the individual case method was used. Interview, observation, documentation analysis and direct measurement were used as research tools. Discussion. Not all aims set by the nursing staff were realized because of the deterioration of the child’s health. Endotracheal intubation was required. Conclusions. 1. Barking cough, dyspnea, or stridor are characteristic symptoms in acute subglottic laryngitis. 2. The cooperation of the nursing staff with the patient and his parents is essential for a positive treatment outcome.References
