General Principles
International Journal of Wound Research (IJWR) may accept a limited amount of advertising, sponsorship, and commercial support relevant to its scientific, clinical, and professional readership.
Commercial activities are managed transparently and remain separate from the journal’s editorial and peer-review processes.
The acceptance of advertising or sponsorship does not constitute endorsement of the advertised product, service, company, organization, or claim by IJWR, its Editors, Editorial Board, reviewers, or Publisher.
Editorial Independence
Advertising, sponsorship, and other commercial arrangements do not influence:
- editorial policies;
- the selection or appointment of editors and reviewers;
- the submission, evaluation, acceptance, or rejection of manuscripts;
- the content or conclusions of peer-review reports;
- the timing or order of publication;
- corrections, Expressions of Concern, retractions, or other post-publication decisions.
Editorial decisions are based exclusively on scientific quality, methodological validity, ethical acceptability, relevance to the journal’s scope, and the applicable editorial criteria.
Decisions concerning the acceptance of advertising and sponsorship are made by the Publisher and are organizationally and procedurally separated from editorial decision-making.
Advertising
Advertising refers to paid promotional material supplied by an external company, institution, organization, or other advertiser.
Advertising may appear in clearly designated areas of the journal website, printed material, digital issues, supplements, newsletters, conference publications, or other journal-related communications.
Advertisements are clearly identified by the label “Advertisement” and are visually distinguishable from editorial and scientific content.
Advertising is not designed or positioned in a manner that could reasonably suggest a connection with, or endorsement by, a particular article, author, reviewer, editor, or editorial decision.
Sponsorship
Sponsorship refers to financial or in-kind support provided for a journal activity, supplement, conference publication, dissemination initiative, educational project, printing activity, or other defined publishing service.
The existence and source of sponsorship are disclosed clearly and prominently. The disclosure identifies the sponsoring organization and, where relevant, describes the nature of the support provided.
Sponsorship does not grant the sponsor authority over:
- editorial content;
- author or reviewer selection;
- peer review;
- editorial decisions;
- article conclusions or interpretations;
- the wording of corrections, retractions, or editorial notices.
Sponsors are not permitted to receive confidential manuscripts, peer-review reports, editorial correspondence, or unpublished editorial decisions.
Sponsored Supplements and Conference Content
A Special Issue, supplement, conference abstract book, proceedings publication, or other collection may receive financial or organizational support from a scientific society, institution, conference organizer, commercial company, or other sponsor.
Such support must be declared on the relevant issue, supplement, collection, or publication webpage and within the associated PDF where applicable.
Sponsored publications are labelled using an appropriate description, such as:
- “Sponsored Supplement”;
- “Sponsored Content”;
- “Published with the support of [name of organization]”.
Sponsored editorial or scientific content is not labelled merely as “Advertisement” unless it is promotional material rather than scholarly content.
The review process applied to sponsored content is determined by its article type and is disclosed transparently. Full research articles remain subject to the journal’s standard editorial and peer-review requirements.
Further information is available in the journal’s Special Issues, Supplements, and Conference Content Policy.
Identification and Placement
Advertising and sponsored material are clearly distinguishable from peer-reviewed articles, editorials, journal policies, and other editorial content through labelling, layout, placement, or a combination of these measures.
In digital or printed journal issues, advertisements are identified prominently within the relevant file or page. Where advertising appears in a PDF, the label “Advertisement” is displayed on the advertisement itself or immediately adjacent to it.
Advertisements are not inserted within the text, tables, figures, references, or supplementary files of scientific articles.
The placement of advertising does not depend on the acceptance or rejection of a particular manuscript.
Acceptance Criteria
Advertising and sponsorship must be compatible with the journal’s scientific scope, professional readership, ethical principles, and applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
IJWR does not accept material that:
- is false, misleading, deceptive, discriminatory, or defamatory;
- makes unsupported scientific, clinical, diagnostic, or therapeutic claims;
- disguises promotional material as independent editorial content;
- infringes copyright, privacy, intellectual property, or other legal rights;
- promotes unsafe, unlawful, or unethical products, services, or practices;
- could compromise patient safety, public trust, editorial independence, or the reputation of the journal;
- is incompatible with the journal’s Aim and Scope or professional readership.
Acceptance of an advertisement does not imply that IJWR has independently tested, validated, approved, or certified the advertised product or service.
The Publisher reserves the right to refuse, request modification of, suspend, remove, or discontinue advertising or sponsorship that does not comply with this policy.
User Data and Behavioural Targeting
Advertising displayed by IJWR is not selected on the basis of manuscript decisions, confidential editorial information, individual reading behaviour, health information, or personal characteristics of authors, reviewers, or readers.
IJWR does not provide advertisers or sponsors with access to confidential submission data, reviewer information, editorial correspondence, or non-public user records.
Where the journal does not use advertising cookies, behavioural profiling, or personalized advertising technologies, advertisements are displayed contextually or according to their predetermined position within a publication.
Any use of cookies or third-party technologies is governed by the journal’s Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy and is subject to applicable consent requirements.
Responsibility for Advertising Claims
Advertisers and sponsoring organizations are responsible for ensuring that the material they submit is accurate, lawful, appropriately substantiated, and compliant with applicable professional, regulatory, intellectual-property, and advertising requirements.
The Publisher reviews advertising and sponsorship material before acceptance but does not independently verify every scientific, technical, commercial, or therapeutic claim contained in an advertisement.
Responsibility for advertised claims remains with the advertiser or sponsoring organization. Acceptance does not constitute scientific validation, regulatory approval, or endorsement by the journal.
Complaints and Withdrawal
Concerns regarding an advertisement, sponsorship disclosure, commercial claim, placement, or potential conflict with editorial independence may be reported to the Publisher.
The Publisher will assess the concern and may request evidence or clarification from the advertiser, modify or remove the material, suspend an agreement, or take other appropriate action.
Removal of an advertisement does not alter or remove independent scientific articles unless a separate editorial or research-integrity concern exists.
Advertising Enquiries
Advertising specifications, available placements, publication formats, and rates are provided through the journal’s current Rate Card or upon request.
