Abstract
Background. Epilepsy is a disorder that often affects children. Diagnostics, therapeutic and social problems and high occurrence rate means that the care for a patient must be carried by a team of professionals. The key role in the team is played by a nurse and pediatric neurologist. Objectives. The aim of this study is to present a case of a 16 year old boy who suffers from epilepsy and the role of a nurse in caring of him. Material and methods. The study was conducted in January 2015. The method employed was “Individual case study”. Research techniques: interview/consultation, analysis of medical documentation, observation, written opinion of a psychologist and results of laboratory tests and specialist’s examinations. Results and conclusions. Systematic and well planned nursing care has a beneficial influence in achieving high quality care. A nurse that cares of an epileptic child takes part in pharmacotherapy, educates and supports patient and his parents. Furthermore, helps to adapt patient’s present lifestyle to living with the disease and instructs how to proceed in case of epileptic seizure.References
