Abstract

Chronic disease restricts a child’s life in every of its aspects: physical, mental and social. In case of Lesniowski-Crohn disease or ulcerative colitis, physical restrictions consist mostly of the disease symptoms such as disorders of puberty, short stature and unsatisfactory appearance. Difficulties in contact with peers can cause behavioral disorders, mood swings and even mental disorders such us psychoneuroses, depression, and sometimes even psychosis. The study discusses nurses’ role and responsibilities in preparation of the child and its family for adaptation to new conditions. Special consideration has been given to patient’s care and to the basic principles of nutrition during remission and during exacerbation of the disease symptoms.
